Lol, well thanks much for the add to your friends list. I'll do the same in case you have any more questions or something...

iAy! I understand that whole upload thing. The parents put on a lame program that doesn't let me submit anything to DeviantArt. T__T But if you have a digital camera, you could take pics of your work and upload it that way. Always take those pictures outside on a sunnny day, though.

I'm not sure what those people mean by jester drawings... But n.udes are good. I just suggested a tiny bit of clothing, because the only model you have might be your best friend or something. Actually, in my case, the only model I had was myself. And I obviously wasn't going to draw my n.aked self for the people at Ringling to see. Haha.

And yes, realism is a good thing. Never ever ever just come up with something. At least not for your portfolio. Even if you think you proportions and details are win, you have to remember a key rule: "Draw what you see and not what you know."

And no matter how good you are, you will always have to take the core classes. That is, unless you get some special credit or a 5 on your portfolio review. You could use those things for advanced placement.

Yup.

Wow this was amazing.

I love it how much you care to help me :3
Really it helps alot, luckly i work on alot of direct observational stuff so thts good. Oh and please disregard my gallery, i dont have a scanner anymore so i haven't updated anything >_< lol

Other people tell me that i should include nudes and include jesture drawings as well. They said that they mostly want to see my realism more than anything beucase they are going to make me take core classes to farther inprove.

You dinfitly helps me thanks.

Thank you so much

I'm actually not at Ringling yet. And, in fact, I've decided to take one more year off before going there. However, I was accepted, so i suppose I can offer some words of advice:

1) First off, for applicants of the Computer Animation major, it is mandatory to make half of what you submit to be works of direct observation. No pictures or references can be used here. Some examples that Ringling gives include interiors or exteriors of rooms/buildings, still life, figures, etc.

It's great to do a little of each, but remember that if you don't enjoy it, you shouldn't draw it. Your best will never come out that way.

2) In consideration of the previous, remember to be creative. If drawing a figure, make sure that they aren't sitting/standing in a boring way. In fact, they probably souldn't be sitting at all. Also, make sure you have them in as little clothing as possible. Drawing folds in clothing is nice, but if you can't draw an unclothed body, then you can't properly draw a clothed one. (And I'm sure the reviewers know this)

If you're doing a still life, make it interesting. Put one thing on top of another. Try placing the objects on a mirror (as I have) or fill some of the objects with water. If some objects are transparent, place them on something colored. (But don't make the overall piece too busy)

As long as you aren't using a picture, the whole direct observation thing is pretty self explanatory.

3) The other half of your portfolio should be all-out creativity. Draw people in unnatural colors or from extreme perspectives.

Take an object and change it in some way. (Melt, bend, etc)

Just be creative, really.

Put in different medias. Oil pastel, chalk pastel, acrylic, prisma, etc. Mix medias in a picture too. I'm guessing you're in art class? So this should be no brainer stuff to you, haha.

Put pictures of your work (Ten seperate works; make ten seperate pictures) on a cd. It's best and more impressive if you make a Power Point. Nothing difficult. Just a title page, and a slide for each work that features the piece and what media it is. (I typically name my pieces so I included titles as well) And make sure not to place pictures of the same media next to each other, if you can help it. Uum... Put one of your stronger works at the front and another at the end. Put your absolute strongest in the middle. Just in case, include a file with a thumbnail of each work inside. Just in case the Power Point thing doesn't work out.

Also, make your cd case interesting. Make your own cover and back for the case.

The application for admission requires an essay. One essay topic choice is about the artist that influences you most. If you choose to do this one, then it might be good to use themes or styles of that artist's work in the transitions or backgrounds of the slides. (I didn't do that particular essay, so my backgrounds were just enlarged and transparent copies of the particular piece on each page.)

Eh... I don't really know what else. Be original always! No a.nime or various cliches. Aannd.. I hope that helps??? ^__^

Your "Super Girl" and "First Ink" pictures were really good. Well, of your gallery, those two are my favorite. I'm sure you'll do a fine job in your application! Good luck!
